Course of a session
One shiatsu treatment takes about one hour. The first appointment may take a bit longer because patient and therapist need to get to know each other, to get an insight in your background. The session starts with a small conversation in which complaints of the patient and questions of the therapist are dealt with. Also after the treatment, there is some time to talk about what the massage did to you. The massage itself is performed on a tatami floor, on a futon and a body cushion. This provides the best position to relax and is ideal for a massage of the back. Moreover, because of the body cushion, pregnant women can lie face down until the end of their pregnancy.
The client preferably wears loose clothes, a T-shirt and trousers, to be able to move freely. Only when moxa is used and during massages of the organs in the hara, shiatsu is performed on the naked body. Futon: Japanese mattress

A treatment is not always painless: depending on the blocked energy, the treatment can be painful. Many people talk about a ‘good’ pain and notice a clear improvement of the symptoms afterwards.
The therapy stresses the fact that you have your health in your own hands. Next to the massages, you can also get advice on balanced diets, physical exercises, breathing and relaxation techniques, how to deal with emotional patterns, …
The seriousness of the complaint(s) determines the duration of the therapy. The longer the complaint has existed, the longer it may take to get your energy balance back and through this, an improvement of the symptoms. After all, we work on the cause and not directly on the symptoms. You can feel the results of one treatment for 3 to 5 days. When the client feels better, he can opt for a “maintenance treatment”, once a month or every 6 weeks.
